True or False?

True or False?

Don’t believe everything you hear!

Over the years a number of myths pertaining to Chiropractic have been created. While the majority of these myths have no basis, they do exist and can cause some confusion to individuals unfamiliar with Chiropractic care.

Here we try to dispel some of these myths and set the record straight!

I cannot have Chiropractic care if I’ve had back surgery.

Not True. Areas of your spine that have undergone surgery such as a laminectomy or discectomy can simply be avoided or handled more delicately. However, surgery often causes instability above or below the involved level. These “reactions” could be the focus of your Chiropractic care.

I cannot have Chiropractic care if I am elderly and have osteoporosis.

Not True. Regardless of your age, size or physical condition, Chiropractic care can be helpful in some way. Your specific needs are always considered and we will only accept those patients we truly believe we can help. If you are not suited to Chiropractic care, we’ll refer you to the appropriate health care provider.

My health insurance will not pay for Chiropractic care.

Not True. Call your insurance provider for more information as almost all companies offer coverage for Chiropractic care. However, it may be necessary to upgrade your ‘Extras’ cover to include Chiropractic. If you need assistance, please ask for your Chiropractors’ recommendation.

It takes too long to feel better and have relief of this pain using Chiropractic care.

It depends. Patient results vary depending upon many factors. How long have you had your problem? Do you keep you appointments? Are you getting the proper rest, exercise, and nutrition? Are you in otherwise good health? Within a short period of time most patients sense enough progress to justify completing our recommendations.

Chiropractic adjustments are painful.

False. Chiropractors are highly trained and skilled professionals that excel at making adjustments comfortable and effective. After an adjustment, many patients report a sense of well-being or a feeling of calmness or relief. In the early stages of your care, inflammation or muscle spasms may delay these positive effects.

Adjustments are not safe.

Not true. A New Zealand government study concluded that Chiropractic adjustments are “remarkably safe”. Taking an over-the-counter pain reliever is about 100 times more risky.

Adjustments make your spine loose.

Not true. Only the spinal joints that are “locked up” receive adjustments. Chiropractic care helps to re-distribute the forces acting upon the spine allowing weakened muscles and ligaments to stabilise and in fact this helps to strengthen the spine!

Adjustments are not safe for children or babies.

False. Chiropractors work on people of all ages, including young children and babies. Talk to your Chiropractor about the different methods used on babies and young children versus adults.
